Disadvantage: This sort of scribble adds one layer of preconceptions about the text. It makes the text more difficult to read. It takes away a personal relationship with the text. Our own focus gets taken away. But there are advantages: You can discover what other people have focused on and what they look at as important. In this way books are creating a way of communicating between readers.
